Gregory Alden Morris was educated in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. He earned his Bachelor of Science, Master of Education, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. Gregory is a retired educator for the Pittsburgh Public Schools. He began his career in 1959 as an elementary school teacher, became a reading materials specialist, was promoted to supervisor of reading and language arts, K-12 and then moved into administration as an Executive Assistant to the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools. In 1983 he was promoted to Director of Reading and Literature Kindergarten to 12th grade for the entire Pittsburgh Public Schools System. He retired from that position in 1993.

After a short stint in retirement he was hired as an associate professor of education at the University of Pittsburgh, where he continued to pursue his commitment to teaching and working with youngsters and adults at the university and in the public schools. He specialized in helping to develop new teachers, reading specialists, supervisors and other reading education professionals. He retired from the University in 2005, completing a teaching career of 45 years.

Greg has worked with Billy Strayhorn’s heirs to become incorporated as a family owned corporation in 1996, known as Billy Strayhorn Songs, Inc. He became the corporation’s first president, later served as treasurer and currently is a Board Director at Large. Gregory is married to Thelma Lovette Morris, a retired educator and administrator
