Ever Up and Onward

The Colburn School in Los Angeles presents “Ever Up and Onward”, an exploration of the life, legacy, and music of jazz icon Billy Strayhorn. In this eight-part video series, bassist and Colburn Conservatory alumnus Marlon Martinez presents an in-depth portrait of Strayhorn through interviews, audio recordings, archival video footage, in-depth analysis of musical characteristics, and performances with the Marlonius Jazz Orchestra. Congratulations to another 2022 Billy Strayhorn Jazz Education Scholarship Award recipient, drummer Victor Giraldez. Victor is currently a senior at Gulliver Preparatory School in Pinecrest, Florida.  He is also the President of the Jazz and Wind Ensemble at Gulliver. He is also president of the Tri-M Honor Society at his school. Victor carries a weighted GPA of 4.84. A rising star, Victor enjoyed a great learning summer at Litchfield Jazz Camp. We congratulate and wish nothing but continued success for Victor in all his endeavors. 

Drummer Titus Z. Daniels, who is from Brooklyn, is currently attending Western Connecticut State University as a sophomore. He has been playing drums for 17 years. Titus attended and graduated from the Special Music High School in NYC. He has played at the The Jazz Gallery, The Kaufman Music Center, and The Roulette. Titus continues to practice and practice. Going to Litchfield Jazz Camp and becoming an RA for two weeks was an opportunity that Titus is glad he took advantage of. And so are we. Continued success in music and school for Titus and his bright future.
