On August 29th, Washington D.C. was treated to a wonderful performance of the musical play, “An Evening with Strayhorn: Songs and scenes inspired by the life of Billy Strayhorn.” Written by George Washington University professor and talented singer, actor and playwright Barry Moton, the play told the story of Billy Strayhorn in music and moved through his life with a passion and ease that was enjoyed and well received by the audience. The event was held at Mr. Henrys DC restaurant, a historic jazz spot in the Capital Hill neighborhood.

Making the event more special, Strayhorn family member Esther Sheppard was able to attend, meet the cast, and share some inspiring words of gratitude on behalf of the Strayhorn family. Everyone was overjoyed at her presence, which made the performance an even bigger success. Look for more from the creative mind of Barry Moton and the outstanding cast from this event.
