Congratulations to the 2024 Billy Strayhorn Jazz Education Scholarship Recipients from the Nashville Jazz Workshop “Jazz Set” Program.

Congratulations to the 2024 recipients of the Billy Strayhorn Jazz Education Scholarship who attended this years Nashville Jazz Workshop summer camp program called “Jazz Set”, June 3rd thru June 5th.

The innovative “Jazz Set” program was a three-day long, intensive workshop in jazz for students of all instruments, ages 12-18. Students enrolled in the “Jazz Set” program studied jazz styles, theory, improvisation, listening, and of course, playing in jazz combos. The program audition required a video performance of a piece of music that contained two contrasting styles. Each style had to have a written section and an optional improvised section. “Jazz Set” accepted a maximum of 30 students this year  A swinging concert closed the event, with some great playing all around! Nashville Jazz Workshop Director Lori Mechem commented “these kids were wonderful and very appreciative. Thank you for all you do. This camp made a huge difference in their lives.” Kudos to the NJW for jazz education nurturing opportunity for our young student musicians in the Nashville area!
