Congratulations to the 2025 Billy Strayhorn Jazz Education Scholarship Award recipient from Temple University: Roman Wyatt

Congratulations and kudos to the 2025 Billy Strayhorn Jazz Education Scholarship Award recipient from Temple University, Roman Wyatt. Roman is a wonderful pianist who just completed his sophomore year with the jazz studies program. He comes to Temple after graduating from Newport High School in Newport, Pennsylvania. Roman said he really enjoys the Temple faculty, the Philly community, and the small ensemble playing he is involved in. Some of the other great jazz pianist that Roman admires include Brad Mehldau, Thelonious Monk, Art Tatum, Teddy Wilson, Paul Bley, and Sullivan Fortner. Congrats again Roman on your well deserved Strayhorn Award!

A shout out to the Chair of Instrumental Studies at Temple, trumpeter Terell Stafford and the amazing faculty nurturing the top tier young talent coming out of this prestigious music program. The Jazz Studies Program offers students a myriad of opportunities to hone their craft and prepare for careers as professional musicians, educators, composers and arrangers.
