HAPPY BIRTHDAY BILLY STRAYHORN!

On November 29th, we honor and celebrate the 110th birthday of jazz legend, arranger, composer, lyricist and pianist Billy Strayhorn. Born this day in 1915, Strayhorn became one of most respected names in jazz for the music that he helped usher in and its impact during his time as the musical writing and arranging partner with Duke Ellington. The musical legacy of Billy Strayhorn was very wonderfully described by the great bandleader Chico Hamilton this way: “Strayhorn was a time, and he was a movement, which anybody around him would embrace.”
